A Sterling Start

By: Dione Geiger, President, Florida Sterling Council | Published: December 3, 2021

When Sterling began, then Governor Lawton Chiles wanted to make Florida a state where citizens benefited from a state government that provided exceptional customer service. As a result, Governor Chiles supported the founding of the Florida Sterling Council and created the Governor’s Sterling Award.  This process, modeled after the national Malcolm Baldrige Award program, provided a platform across the state, across all types of businesses and sectors, to promote and recognize performance excellence in Florida.

Thirty years later, the Sterling Council has expanded beyond Florida to include the state of Georgia, but we are still committed to the vision to be a state of Excellence. So, as we prepare to celebrate our 30th Anniversary, we invite you to join us at our first live conference in three years at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes from May 31 to June 3, 2022.  John and I look forward to seeing you there as we continue to promote and recognize performance excellence in Florida and Georgia.
