Region Five The "Top Quality Tigers " Team Orange River Elementary School Fort Myers

The T.Q. (Top Quality) Tigers are from Orange River Elementary in Fort Myers, Florida, but you can call us Lee County School District’s best kept secret! At Orange River Elementary, we strive to create an atmosphere where learning is meaningful, safe, and fun.  We are a Title 1 school and have a free and reduced lunch rate over 70%.  As a community of learners, we understand schools struggle with external factors that deeply impact progress, interest, and a sense of sustainability with our stakeholders.

A year ago Orange River was faced with a new administration, new philosophies, and different approaches.  Through these changes we recognized our common goals. We could do better, we could inspire, and we could continue to prove ourselves as Lee County’s best kept secret.  “Fight for Your Writes” is just one example of how Orange River’s T.Q.  kids and staff use Quality as a guide on the continuing journey to excellence. 

Through Quality tools we were able to move the entire fourth grade level from a 2.7 to 4.05 in just 13 weeks.  That’s 95% of all fourth graders scoring at or above a 3.0 (minimal passing grade) on the FCAT Writes.  This group includes our special needs and limited English proficient students.  The project demonstrates our ability to make learning meaningful, safe, and fun and, at the same time, attain the highest FCAT Writing scores in the school’s history.
