HOW YOU CAN ACHIEVE THESE GOALS:
The Florida Sterling Council has seven unique assessment tools designed to take your organization through various levels of evaluation enabling you to prioritize improvement objectives. They are all based on the Sterling Criteria for Organizational Performance Excellence and the Malcolm Baldrige National Criteria for Performance Excellence.
Each of the seven Sterling process levels is designed to progressively move organizations toward their goals of performance excellence.

- Sterling Navigator
This survey-based evaluation tool is simple, quick, and easy to use. It will provide you with a "snapshot" of where your organization currently is, and identifies organizational strengths and the key opportunities for improvement. It is an excellent tool for helping focus the organization and set future direction -
Sterling Horizon
The Sterling Horizon assessment helps you begin the process of telling the story of your organization in a concise way. You will complete the 5-page Organizational Profile to define the big picture of what is important to your organization. The Horizon process provides you with an opportunity to better understand the Sterling/Baldrige Criteria through a half-day site visit with a senior examiner or Sterling staff member. This hands-on consultative and mentoring approach is followed by a formal feedback report that will give you direction and focus points as you move forward on your Path to Excellence. -
Sterling Explorer
The Sterling Explorer includes the Organizational Profile, but also ask you to start exploring how you align, “what you do” to “what you say is important.” You will receive an overview of the Sterling/Baldrige Criteria, instructions and modeling of how to use bulleted responses in the template to ensure you give the most accurate and complete description of how you currently operate. You will receive a feedback report with strengths, opportunities for improvement, and recommendations for next steps to plan your highest impact actions to continue on your Path to Excellence. -
Sterling Business Blueprint
The Sterling Business Blueprint is a guided assessment designed for large and small businesses and not-for-profit organizations. This 3-day split workshop helps introduce you to the Sterling/Baldrige Criteria as you assess your organization, learn about best practices, and prioritize improvement opportunities. You receive coaching through the design of your projects and also have remote access to the coach as you implement your projects. You receive final feedback on your projects and guidance on the next steps in your Business Blueprint Improvement Plan. -
Sterling Challenge
The Sterling Challenge questions provide a more comprehensive assessment than the Explorer or Blueprint, but are less rigorous that the Governor’s Sterling Award level. You complete an Organizational Profile and a written report with results that goes to the team of Examiners. The Examiners will spend a week on-site verifying and clarifying your responses through interviews with your leaders and employees. You will receive a feedback report with key strengths and opportunities by category, cross-cutting themes, and recommendations for next steps on your Path to Excellence. -
Governor’s Sterling Award
The Governor’s Sterling Award assessment is designed for organizations with mature, refined management processes and positive results. This intensive 50 page application addresses the full scope of the Sterling/Baldrige Criteria, plus the Organizational Profile. The team of Examiners will review your application and have multiple calls with your organization in preparation for the week long site visit. On site, they will continue to verify and clarify how systematic your processes are, and how well your performance measures give you the information you need to make organizational and operational decisions, and how your results position you in your industry. You will receive a detailed, objective feedback report with strengths and opportunities by Criteria Item, as well as cross-cutting themes to focus your organization on even higher levels of performance. Your final report will go to the Panel of Judges to determine role model status and selection for the award. -
Governor’s Sterling Sustained Excellence Award
The Governor’s Sustained Excellence Award is designed to enable Governor’s Sterling Award recipients (within four years) to retain their role model status. This high-level assessment process examines how well you have continued to improve and innovate to sustain and grow your organization in a competitive environment. The highly experienced Examiner team will review your application that includes an updated Profile, improvements based on previous feedback, specific sustainability questions, and Results. The site visit is conducted at the Executive level, and you will receive an Executive Summary style feedback report to continue your journey. Your final report will go to the Panel of Judges to determine continued role model status and selection for the award.
