Governor Crist Celebrates Sterling Award Recipients
CAPE CANAVERAL-The Governor's Sterling Award Celebration, held at the Radisson Resort at the Port in Cape Canaveral, recognized Brevard Public Schools' high-level student achievement and excellence in management and operations. Brevard Public Schools was honored with the Governor's Sterling Award at the 2007 Sterling Conference in Orlando earlier this year.
"It is important to honor organizations that make positive contributions to their communities and to Florida," Governor Crist said. "Organizations like the Sterling Council are helping make Florida a great place to live, work and raise a family. I am committed to continue building a world-class education for Florida students and appreciate the work Brevard County is doing to help with that endeavor."
The Governor's Sterling Award is a prestigious award that recognizes organizations that work hard to meet their full potential. Last year, 96 percent of Brevard schools received a grade of an A or B. They also have the third-lowest drop out rate in the state.
The Florida Sterling Council, through
a public/private partnership with the Executive Office of the Governor, oversees
the Governor's Sterling Award. The council is comprised of public and private
sector members and led by an Executive Committee. Based on the application
of the Sterling Criteria, organizations have received the Governor's Sterling
Award (GSA) for significant improvement and achievement of performance excellence
since 1992. The Governor's Sterling Award is recognized as the preeminent state
award process in the nation.
